What is Anthos?
Anthos is an integrated platform that helps you modernize how you develop, secure, and operate hybrid cloud and cloud-native environments. Anthos is built on open source technologies pioneered by Google, enabling consistency between cloud and on-premises environments.Anthos puts all your IT resources into a consistent development, management, and control framework, automating away low-value and insecure tasks across your on-premises and Google Cloud infrastructure.
- Anthos is a managed service that will let you manage and deploy workloads across clouds, all without having to worry about the different environments and APIs.
- Anthos is a 100% software-based solution
- Anthos/Google Cloud Services Platform is based on the Google Kubernetes Engine, along with few other open-source projects.
- This is really the stack for future which shall radically change the way we use cloud technologies at present.
- Offered by Google and will support AWS and Azure as well. This means that Google, is managing your applications for you on AWS and Azure.
- It’s hardware agnostic, meaning that users can take their current hardware and run the service as such.
- Google has partnered with multiple hardware and software enterprises / providers to integrate their offerings with Anthos capabilities.
- Anthos Migrate service, will help you migrate your directly into containers in GKE, thus help reduce excess labour, complexity, and risk that may have stood in your way.
Key Benefits of Anthos
- You can learn one technology and use it consistently everywhere
- Don’t get locked into any cloud provider. You can choose to migrate to whichever cloud they have the best solution from.
- Operational consistency everywhere. For example, security, policies, monitoring can be configured the same way across all applications and platforms thus reducing risks.
To summarize
Anthos is the natural evolution of the Google cloud services platform announced last year. It brings together a combination of the existing Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), GKE On-Prem and the Anthos Config Management console for unified administration, policies and security across hybrid Kubernetes deployments.
